On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, OAB Foundation participated in a citizens' gathering, mime performance, and poster distribution campaign titled "Renewable Energy Now", held at Shyamoli Park, Dhaka, under the global theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."
The event was organized by Waterkeepers Bangladesh in collaboration with more than 29 environmental, development, youth, and civic organizations, bringing together environmental activists, researchers, cultural personalities, youth leaders, and concerned citizens to advocate for urgent climate action and a just transition to renewable energy.
During the gathering, speakers highlighted that Bangladesh remains one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, yet fossil fuel-based projects continue to expand. They emphasized that transitioning rapidly and equitably to renewable energy is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring long-term energy security.
Participants called on the Government of Bangladesh to include tax exemptions and policy incentives for renewable energy in the national budget while ending subsidies and financial incentives for fossil fuel projects. They also urged increased investment in solar and wind energy, a halt to new fossil fuel investments, and the expansion of environmentally sustainable energy systems across the country.
As part of the program, a powerful mime performance illustrated the consequences of climate change and the importance of environmental protection. Volunteers also distributed posters promoting renewable energy, climate justice, and sustainable development, encouraging greater public awareness and participation in climate action.
As a youth-led organization committed to environmental sustainability, OAB Foundation proudly stood in solidarity with fellow organizations and citizens, reaffirming its commitment to promoting renewable energy, climate justice, and community-led environmental advocacy.
OAB Foundation believes that meaningful climate action requires collaboration among communities, policymakers, civil society organizations, and young people. Through awareness campaigns, advocacy initiatives, and youth engagement, the organization will continue working toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Bangladesh.
